The Action

In the United States, few attempts were made to create advocacy groups supporting gay and lesbian marriage until after World War II. In the 1950s they slowly got all the rights they deserved and fair treatment in mental health, public policy, and employment. The mattachine was one of the powerfull gay and lesbian groups and had a strong part in this movement. In 1964, a new gay organization was formed in San Francisco, concerned with the development of the gay community. This group was called the society for individual rights. If you were interested in helping gays and lesbians you could sign up for these groups and donate.
