During the Second World War we woman were needed to contribute to the war effort if America were to succeed. There for, propaganda campaigns were launched to encourage us to play a more active role in helping America succeed in the war. The most famous character used by the government in our propaganda campaign was Rosie the Riveter. She took on jobs that had previously been associated with men, such as riveting, working in ammunition factories and so on. The campaign proved a big success, with women being employed in factories making guns, ammunition, jeeps, aircraft's etc. They provided soldiers on the front line with ammunition and kept the army supplied with weapons. Other propaganda campaigns were also used such as adverts were used

We also benefited from their working position. We women experienced financial freedom and had the ability to buy what they wanted without having to ask for money. We also experienced our first taste of economic equality, as several states employed an equal pay system during the war.

But, after the war things went back to normal

Our life had been difficult– denied basic rights, trapped at home our entire life and discriminated against in the workplace.
Our women liberation movement will help all these changes to come about through its scores of policies and radical ways of thinking. In fact, to illustrate some of these radical ways of thinking, some extremist women made a “Freedom Trash Can” and filled it with representations of women trapped in the home.

“WE WILL NOT STAND FOR MEN’S ENTERTAINMENT!”
WE SHALL NOT SYMBOLIZE “BEUTY OBJECTS” OR “SEX OBJECTS!”
AND WE WILL NOT REST TILL WE HAVE EQUAL WAGES AS MEN!

JOIN OUR MOVEMENT AND WE WILL GAIN FREEDOM FROM MEN AND GENDER DICRIMINATION!
